Profiles of the LD Exco

Olivia has dabbled in the art forms of all four wings. She acts, writes, has been filmed on occasion and shouts persuasively at other people. You will never see her consume anything except coffee. Once upon a time she was a sweet young thing who wanted to look like Rita Hayworth. Today she is President of the CCA with the longest acronym in Hwa Chong. She likes cult references, French literature and Regina Spektor. It is her life-long dream to be a femme fatale. She does not have obsessive-compulsive disorder, whatever the other people on this page are telling you.

Davina likes: airports, books, chocolate, dancing, exploring, footfalls, grocery shopping, humming, interconnectedness, junk shops, kites, Liverpool FC, her MacBook, naps, organic everything, public transport, questions, Rumi, the sky, trees, the United Nations, vegetables, words, Xerox, yoghurt and the zeitgeist.

While small in stature, Fish is not to be underestimated. She will mop, hammer and Mama Lemon her way over any contender who so much as tries to usurp her position as the Real Man of the ELDDFS Exco. (TAKE THAT, LIAU CHUAN YI.) Fish burst onto the Hwa Chong theatre scene when she carried a dead body onstage during the 2008 student production of 'Hungry'. Since then, she has had a hand in the stage management of nearly every ELDDFS production. She takes very good care of her crew and feeds them quality stage food (with balsamic vinegar). Fish has an alarming propensity for tackling people, trying to lift twice her body weight, and innocently telling sexual jokes.

She is an international woman of mystery. Fish is not actually her real name.

Melissa Yoong is your Lit Wing Head 08/09. She is blonde, extremely tall, & a good liar. She likes every form of literature, whether poetry or prose or drama or graphic novels or recipes or newspapers or bad puns. She would like everyone to know that literature is everywhere - SURPRISE! In a CCA with more wings than a sanitary pad, she spans all of them but Debate, & is extremely depressed that her suggestion of the cross-disciplinary activity of members debating in iambic pentameter while pretending to be fish, with the opposition filming the proposition & the proposition filming the opposition, was cruelly rejected. She wears Size 8 Converse High-Tops to school (& Lit Wing sessions) & her favourite poem is Howl by Allen Ginsberg. Her favourite writers include Jack Kerouac, Richard Siken, Lord Byron, Franz Kafka & Ovid.

The Debate Wing Head 08/09 is none other than Liau Chuan Yi. He hung up his Canoeing paddle in Sec Four to debate on dry land, & hasn't looked back since. Despite his status as one of the most laissez-faire members of his wing, he serves as The Man of the ELDDFS Exco 08/09, carrying heavy things & stepping on silverfish. As the unofficial Treasurer of ELDDFS, he is not only famed for his sharp wit & sharp tongue, but also his ability to calculate the accounts to five decimal places. Unfortunately, he does not believe in rounding up something as precious as money. The essence of money is in its precision, & rounding off will make money lose its meaning. He wears Size 10 shoes that are falling apart because his classmates stomp on them when they play basketball & has very short fingers.

Jethro Chua is the Film Wing Head 08/09, though he really is more of a Jet-of-all-trades, with experience in the somersaults & cartwheels of the gymnasium, as well as the lights & sounds & direction of the theatre. Though far from a seasoned cinematographer,he is always willing to share his expansive knowledge on the basics of film, ranging from camera angles to lighting to other esoteric tricks of the trade. Generally good-natured & genial with occasional sparks of snark & bouts of bitchery, he is possibly the most approachable of the ELDDFS Exco 08/09 - just don't ask him for a Firewire. He doesn't just play rolls of celluloid, he also plays ping pong, computer games, weiqi & the drums. We did tell you he was a Jet-of-all-trades.
